I am back to work this week. I finally get around to look at OpenSUSE 10.2 box where I fixed YOU just before going off for the holidays. I look at it today, YOU is broken again and I have to fix it. YOU is deprecated, AFAIK. No, not at all.
Use SMART.
Well yes, it's an option, but YOU is not deprecated by any means.
cheers

Oh, I thought we could no longer use YOU and that we had to use ZMD for the official SUSE-sponsered updates.
Use SMART.

Heh... smart blew up on me yesterday and does this: # smart upgrade --update Loading cache... error: Invalid package file format. Invalid header found. error: Invalid package file format. Invalid header found. Updating cache... ############################################## [100%] I have cleared the cache, uninistalled and reinstalled smart, and it still whines. The smart rpms say they are "0.49.1-40.guru", but "smart --version" says "smart 0.50rc1". Funny thing is, I haven't done anything to smart prior to this other than run it. Try to separate the commands to see which part fails: smart update smart upgrade Also, delete everything under /var/lib/smart/packages and var/lib/smart/channels. maybe the rpm database is corrupt as well, so to fix it: rpm --rebuilddb -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Even the most advanced equipment in the hands of the ignorant is just a pile of scrap. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I ran them seperately, either way they produce the same error.
Also, delete everything under /var/lib/smart/packages and var/lib/smart/channels.
I uninstalled smart & friends, rm -r'd those directories and reinstalled, and now it works without error. Thanks. But it shouldn't have gotten itself into that state to begin with.

I didn't do that, it wasn't necessary. Michael -- If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." I didn't want to update the SUSE linux OS with the latest patches. This was already fixed and working 2 weeks ago. No one touched the box until I worked on it yesterday. <frustrated SUSE user rant> I fixed it now. But let's not blindly defend something (the online update feature(s) of SUSE) that is quite obviously not very stable. -- "Develop success from failures. me: "Crystal ball, crystal ball, tell me, what's broken in Darko's YOU?"
crystal ball: "erm... what the heck, how am I supposed to know"
me: "oh.. uh... hmm... 8ball, should I bother ?"
8ball: "most likely not"
me: "ok"
cheers
