choose a mirror near you. In Konqueror I just mouse over the first USA mirror, right click, Copy Link Address and then go to YaST, Software, Installation Source. Click Add, HTTP, Next and in the Server Name either middle-click or Ctrl+V the copied link. Delete the http://. Then highlight the first slash after the server name and domain through the end of the directory list. Cut+Paste that into the Directory On Server area and delete the leading and trailing slashes. Click Next.
Any errors at this point are usually due to not getting rid of ftp:// or http:// in the Server Name and leading and trailing slashes in the Directory on Server areas. Or the server is down, misconfigured, in the middle of a mirror process, etc.

I've been getting a lot of "server unreachable" and "access denied" do to too many connections today. I've also been getting these sorts of messages on and off over the last month or so. Pair this with the fact that many of the mirrors report the same and in some instances flat out aren't there anymore such as the Packman Unixheads ftp server. The kernel mirrors and many at the universities in the U.S. often aren't reachable. This is either due to bandwidth restrictions and that limits in said bandwidth hits max during peak hours - such as during normal school hours when students (grads. post-docs) are using sys resources for their projects - or the University admins just set a flat bandwidth that simply max's out. The openSUSE sites are the ones that I personally find frustrating. I can't understand why these are unreachable on a fairly regular basis. A couple of reasons come to mind - that the servers are hit the max connections. The repos are being updated (though that shouldn't really make a diff) or after updating permissions or repodata files aren't sync'ed as they might be. One other issue may be with my ISP - but considering the complaints from others with differing providers I also find this unlikely. On some of the non-OSS/factory/ and third person repositories such as guru, suser, jacklab, etc. I repeated find issues with gpg-keys not being accepted by apps such as yum, smart, etc (and I wonder if this may also have to do with YaST not being able to "reach" the repos). Eitherway, just keep checking and posting as to the problems your having. If you've been following the list threads this is not a new complaint or issue apparently. So in otherwords: Pt complaints continue, symptoms remain persistent and intermittent and cause/etiology undetermined at this time - more diagnostic recommended - will continue to follow. :) Cheers, Curtis. -- Spammers Beware: Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again! yup, I've had repeted problems reaching many sites w/ great frustration following close on. No matter if I try Yast, or Smart, or fill in the blank.. even going so far as to add a directory on the local drive. That in 10.2 boxed version insists it can't do that because it doesn't know what the type is.. even tho there is a way to add a local directory to the install sources. I get the same complaints as above. I'm especially have problems getting the guru site added.. and the *problems* repete dosen't know the type, doesn't like the gpgkey... and on and on.. It won't even get added using konvenientSuse . I managed early on adding it to smart, but haven't got further since Smart also doesn't like the gpgkey. <shrug> Patience is a virtue to be practised, I guess. And sooner or later I'm going to be very practised. ;-) -- j I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The gpg-keys have been especially problematic on a number of mirrors. And I've had an especially hard time using V10.0 - since there was no way to override the gpg check via YaST (though negating the gpg checks isn't preferrable either because one could get nasties that way). There was a recent post on the Beta list about the problems with the mirrors and gpg/authentication checking - so they are aware of the issue. And IMHO it's much improve since its first inception. However, problems persist. So, we wait and hope for a resolution. As they said on the Beta list - they're trying. What Curtis said too. Opening those links in a browser should get you to the server/directory. The key sub-directory is the repodata one. If that's visible then YaST _should_ be able to handle it. I am having no problems with any repo's I have defined, today at least. Last week and over the weekend I had trouble with one site because the permissions in their directory structure were messed up so I couldn't access it. Fixed Monday AM though. Not sure what all the troubles are except to guess that possible bad permissions get replicated out from Novell/SUSE, the load is too high on the mirror servers for any number of reasons, human error somewhere in the mix, etc. I don't think its a client side issue where our installs of openSUSE 10.2 are bad, there's a YaST bug, another zmd headache, etc. I perceive it to be on the server side because I don't see comments about chicken sacrifices fixing anything. Well, at least mine haven't worked... Stan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
