Old ISA PnP soundcard in SuSE?
Is there a How to anywhere that goes through the steps of installing an old ISA PnP soundcard in SuSE? It is a Creative Soundblaster AWE 32 card. It works lovely but I have never got it running under version of Linux. Unfortunately it is not a jumpered card otherwise I may have been successful. I can - and have - taken all the IRQ settings etc many times. Any ideas? Simple ones please :-) but not of the throw it in the bin sort, I'd rather wring out the last vestiges of use form this card if I can. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way. Yast? Try to detect it. It will tell that it can not detect any PCI card and will offer to scan for old ISA cards. As far as I remember there is a bug in yast module to do so in 10.0. I did reported it on opensuse bugzilla. As a workaround, I used alsa-config. You can check this link: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=117688 Also, you may search the list archives for my post on 7 Nov 2005, named "Autoloading of sound modules". There are the steps to make it run. Also, if you get the same problems with yast, feel free to add a comment to the bug report, so it receives more attention. Cheers -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)

The AWE32 is one of the better known cards - I have one or two about somewhere. I've recently installed a couple of elderly systems with ISA PnP cards - Aztech - worked just fine. If your AWE32 PnP is truly not being recognised, I would open a bugreport with Novell - someone should be able to help you with this. Are you sure it's PnP? My old (pre-95 I think) AWE32 isn't. What does "pnpdump" say? /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution. Let us analyse your spam- and virus-threat - up to 2 months for free.
