RE: [SLE] My 'BEAST" came in and I attempted my first install of SuSE 7.1
Nice Beast, dude. I too just recently installed 7.1 on my bad ass home-built machine and love it. I especially love the stickers I can put all over my case! I think everything's set up and ready to go. Go where? I don't know. I've downloaded and installed the new kdevelop ide and it's sweet, maybe I'll start writing some cool apps? (The only thing I can't get working is the darn wheel on the wheel mouse, any ideas?) Crazy D __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! What protocol is you mouse set to use? If it's a PS/2 mouse, you could try changing the protocol from ps2 to imps2 - that might fix it. Bye, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
Yes my XF86Config file for my mouse is setup for
imps/2 and I have the line "ZAxisMapping 4 5" and a
line "buttons 3"
Then I try to run imwheel, it runs but no scroll wheel
on the mouse. (I am able, however, to select with the
scroll wheel by pressing it down. but it won't scroll
up or down)
Thanks

Which XF86Config file you're working on? there is one in /etc and one in /etc/X11. I figure this way the hard way when I was on 6.2. 7.1 is great, now serial, ps/2 and usb wheel mouse all work without problem. Good luck. Dennis/sg

I only edited the one in /etc.
Do both files need to be edited?
And I'll try adding a line for 5 buttons instead of 3.
I bet that will fix it.
Thanks,
Crazy D

Heya, Almost right, but try setting "buttons 5" instead. Up and down on the wheel count as extra buttons. J. | John Patterson / Jarel on Snowplains (telnet to snowplains.org 3456) | | Email: jarel@snowplains.org | Web: http://snowplains.org/~jarel/ |
Would you post the entire mouse section of your XF86Config file? After YaST2 wast done configuring my mouse here is what it put into XF86Config: Section "pointer" Protocol "ps/2" Device "/dev/mouse" EndSection Thanks, JLK On Tuesday 13 March 2001 10:41, you wrote:

Bye, Chris
Tried that... didn't work... In fact, out of grins and giggles, I tried every mouse protocol listed. None worked reliably. I've installed a regular 2-button Microsoft PS2 mouse. JLK

Interesting that you should mention that. YaST selected my M$ Intellisense wheel PS/2 mouse without even bringing a mouse dialog up. The same thing happened with the ATI R128 AGP video drive. It did give me a dialog for the monitor. My mfg and type were listed so it was an easy choice. KDE2 came up beautifully and the mouse pointer and buttons worked fine, although the wheel didn't. So, I decided to fix the sound and ran YaST2 from the Control Center as me (user, not root). It switched to root and brought up SAX2 (I think) and that is when the problems started. It seems that SAX2 when run from an initial install can probe and identify mice and video drivers ok, but when run from the control center it can't. As it now stand, no mouse selection works and when KDE2 comes up the mouse jams into the upper right corner and stays there. Then I can't cycle throught desktop menus with the tab key, so I end up having to cntrl-alt-backspace to kill the xserver in order to regain control. I got a regular PS2 mouse to try out. The saga continues. JLK

Jerry, With XFree 4.0: You should have: Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" With 3.3.6: You should have: Protocol "imps/2" ZAxisMapping 4 5 comment out emulate three buttons. Hope it helps, Tom -- Tom Bishop tb64710@alltel.net RLU #12043 SuSE 7.1 PRO
