Hi everyone. How do I ssh into a machine on a lan at IP 192.168.1.1 when the IP the ISP assigns to our server for internet connections varies? I've opened up the ssh port using Yast2 on the lan machine and I can traceroute to get the current IP of the server as we have a domain name, call it a.b.c.d I issue ssh -l steve a.b.c.d but get the error: ssh: connect to address a.b.c.d port 22: Connection refused Or maybe I can't do it? Thanks, Steve.
You would need and ssh daemon running (or configured through Inetd). You could test it on your Lan. IP 192.168.1.1 must be the machine either directly connected to the ISP or your router has packet forwarding. On 11 Sep 2002 at 18:37, steve wrote:
