[opensuse] openSUSE 11.2 -- unable to reconnect to WiFi after connection loss
I have stock openSUSE 11.2 (64bit) on my Acer laptop 5542 (Athlon II). I am using the default KDE setup for desktop. Network setup is managed via NetworkManager. WiFi connectivity on AP is WPA2 Personal. I have configured the NetworkManger profile accordingly with the shared pass phrase. Upon laptop power up WiFi connection is established - no issues. The connection stays up for for 2-3 hours. However, if I the laptop goes into screen saver "lock mode" then I am unable to re-establish the WiFi connection. Clicking on the Netmanager applet, I request reconnection to the WiFi AP. I get the Netmanager dialog box [1] with the "configured" pass phrase already in the field. Clicking on OK says "Authenticating" but nothing happens and then I get the same dialog box [1] and this goes on ad infinitum. So far, system reboot is the only way to re-establish WiFi connection. Any suggestions to fix the problem welcome. TIA, -- Arun Khan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

http://userbase.kde.org/NetworkManagement is about debugging. You could file a bug and attach the requestd info. Also, you can install the gnome applet for NetworkManager and try with that one. If that fails as well it is a general issue and not bound to the KDE client. Yup.. easy fix is to upgrade to a 2.6.34 kernel - you can get that by adding the Kernel Head repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_11.2/ and then installing the latest 2.6.34 kernel This is an issue I've bumped into on several laptops I've installed 11.2 on. There is some kind of sleep mode or state that the WiFi card gets placed into and it won't wake up unless your restart or use some other low level tricks to restart the WiFi card. There are some CLI commands you can issue that will work around the problem... I've had limited/mixed success. The most reliable fix is to bump up to a newer kernel where the patches and fixes have been applied. Should those issues not be reported to bugzilla.novell.com in order to include the fixes into the next official kernel update for openSUSE 11.2? Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
