[opensuse] how to play MP4 files on Firefox
I am running Firefox 60.4 under 42.3. In the past I was able to play .mp4 files using my browser. A recent trial failed. What am I doing wrong and how can I view these files? don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You need to install codecs from 3rd party, https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories most specifically from Pacman. There is a link there, https://opensuse-community.org/ If you already have these installed, then we need more information, like some sample file. .mp4 is just a container and it supports multiple codecs. Some are free, some are not. Good luck, - Adam -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Good luck, - Adam I installed the codecs, I think. When I try to open a .mp4 tile, a window pops up which says "MPEG-4 video (200 MB)" and asks "what should Firefox do with this file"? The default option option is VLC, which when selected claims: VLC could not decode the format "h264" (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)) VLC could not decode the format "mp4a" (MPEG AAC Audio)
What did I do wrong, and how can I determine which codecs are present? Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

why don't you tell firefox to "run" the file rather than vlc? -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Now sure what you mean. I use "Firefox/File/Open File", I select the desired .mp4 file, and receive the receive the VLC popup described above. Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

go to yast, software install, repository view, then select packman. You may have an option "replace system files by this repo files", execute it to be sure all the files come from packman jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I do not see hot to select any single repository. If I click on Yast2/Software Management/Repositories, I receive a list of all packages. Again, I do not see how to select a single repository. On the top, there are a series of tabs. One ies "view", with a drop list. One says "repositories". Also it is possible that you see from the start a tab named "repositories". Any road, you are on it now. Then you will see the list of repositories on the left. <https://goo.gl/images/GidH6A> <https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Vendor_change_update> -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. The "zypper dup --from" Packman Repository" updated 74 files and .mp4 files now display. Thanks. Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
