Updates and update error
Two questions in one-- Using LEAP. I thought this was supposed to be free of continuous updates, unlike its brother Tumbleweed. Nevertheless I get several software update announcements every day, which I don't implement. Now I have a popup "Update Error" Permission to access 'http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_12.2/repodata/repomd.xml' denied. Is this important, and if so why, and how to fix it. If it is not important, why do I get it? --doug

http://packman.inode.at/ This server does not exist anymore, try a packman mirror. Stephan

You have Leap 15.3 if I recall correctly, yet there you have configured a repo with very obsolete 12.2. I hope you have not installed anything from it breaking your system, again. So yes, it has its importance. However, maybe you are lucky because perhaps http://packman.inode.at/ has been out of commission for months. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. YaST Software Repositories. Find and delete that old and strange Packman 12.2 repository. With your level of expertise, you should be using YaST for all your repository and software work - after all, that is what it is there for, and it does an excellent job of it. The other messages make no sense - what are you doing fooling around with zypper and Tumbleweed repositories??? You are using Leap; you should strictly avoid anything with TW. For additional software, in your web browser use the search tool at software.opensuse.org, specifying your Leap 15.3 in the upper-left box labeled "Distribution". Under 15.3 click on "Experimental" and you will find that Artha is in the "Education" repo. Click on "1-Click Install" and follow the prompts; the repo will be added to your system and the package installed. --dg 15.2 & 15.3

At this point the usual response should be to make use of YaST. The whole point to YaST is that you don't need to now how to do something, only find the menu entry in YaST to tell it to take care of the details of the getting done of that thing. We really need a "repository for users howto" of the "for dummies" series, to point doug to it. Explaining all he needs to learn in a simple manner, not assuming any prior knowledge, would takes days to write, possibly beyond my skills. I love the "for dummies" book series, I'm not saying anyone is dumb. They are easy to understand and explain fully everything one needs to know about the subject. I have tried in the past to explain repositories to doug and failed. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)
