Hello All, I had been waiting for my boxed set think that Novell would include rcd, rug and red-carpet on the DVD. I have always liked using red-carpet and am wondering why it is not included and if anybody has the rpms for Suse 10.0? Thanks -- David Barker Master CNI, Master CNE, CLE, MCSE, CCNA

David, I believe Red Carpet is being phased out. With everything that is available to us now, there's really no need for it any longer. You have Yast, YUM, SmartPM & Apt still to take care of all your updates, etc. end of line Lee -- --- KMail v1.8.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.
So is the direction of things to use yast, yum, apt, etc... on opensuse and suse and use red-carpet, rug, and rcd for the enterprise systems (NLD, SLES)? The new zenworks agent is a re-write of rcd and company in C# but there doesn't appear to be a version for 10 yet. The old version is available for 10 (I pulled mine off an opensuse mirror) but there isn't much to point it at. If you do use rcd under 10, put OPTIONS="-r" in /etc/sysconfig/rcd or it won't startup correctly. Cheers, Dan On Thu, 2005-10-13 at 22:16 -0400, BandiPat wrote:

There were several reasons for us not to include it. The main reason is that we dont have any official channel for SUSE Linux 10.0. Then there was the switch to yum repo data within the YaST packagemanager. And last but not least there was a technical problem with python-gtk that we couldnt solve without (posiibly) breaking a lot of other stuff that depends on it. So the decision was to leave it out. We will have the latest and greatest in the next alpha release of SUSE Linux 10.1 which is due in a week, Oct 20th. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, Subsystems "Rules change.
