OK, to be honest sometimes I just feel plain stupid when I try to read the man pages, many of them are just too cryptic.
It is part of becoming experienced in any UNIX type systems to learn how to use manual pages. They are terse, but usually (except for some perverse GNU programs, GNU invented the appalling info system as a replacement for Man pages, rather than an adjunct) complete. You will come to appreciate them ! Cliff But now I actually found the
solution somewhere in the middle of man bash 6000 lines of text. PS1="ei:\w >" did the trick.
Cheers,
ei

man bash /PS1
I modified my .bashrc file with a: PS1="ei:~ >" but when I cd around it doesn't tell me which folder I am in anymore, how can I fix that?
