Before when I entered user name and password in the KDM login screen I got asterisks '*' instead of the characters in the password, but now all of a sudden I don't get anything at all? Control center->system administration->login manager->echo mode or /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc -> [X-*-Greeter] -> EchoMode=OneStar

There is a step-by-step description in /usr/share/doc/packages/cyrus-imapd/README.SuSE. Unless you're upgrading from a previous version, those instructions should lead you on the right track.
