Dear All Since upgrading to KDE3.2 i have lost the ability to click on an rpm file in Konqueror, have it open up in preview mode and then use the button "Install with YAST" (or similar). The only Google info i can find is to change the file association with the Control Centre to use Krpmview but this does not appear on the "Service Preference Order" Any help much appreciated, Tim

Indeed, krpmview is a suse extension, which doesn't appear to be compatible with kde 3.2 (see the archives for the tales of crashing woe with that app installed). It's part of kdebase3-SuSE which hasn't been (publically) ported to 3.2 yet. I wouldn't hold my breath for an update before suse 9.1 is released if I were you

rpm -Uvh *rpm ? Unless Im mistaken (always a possibility) I thought that Yast simply relies on the underlying rpm database. I know I have been installing rpms by hand on mnay many systems, and never had issues with yast getting coinfused by that. I could just have gotten lukcy I guess .. "Never" is a strong word. IIRC the gui yast2 had its own database and didn't care about the system wide rpm database in suse 8.0 and 8.1. I think it wasn't until 8.2 that it looked at the rpm db. But yes, rpm -Uvh <filename> or yast -i <filename> are possible options. There are a million ways to do it

Thanks to you both Tim

OK, I more or less skipped 8.0 and 8.1 (except on one or two systems) and wnet fro 7.3 to 8.2 / 9.0 on most of my boxes (my in this case meaning the ones I admin, not the ones I own ;) ) so indeed, I just got lucky .. I don;t think I've ever used the yast2 on 8.0 and 8.1 (except maybe to change some system settings) . Didn't 8.0 and 8.1 still also supply old style yast ? I know the 8.0 and 8.1 boxes I've only ever fiddled with remotely (over an ssh connection) so I for sure have not used the gui/qt based yast flavour on those. And over ssh rpm -Uvh is much quicker to us ...
But yes, rpm -Uvh <filename> or yast -i <filename> are possible options. There Thanks to you both
