Update to Unofficial SuSE FAQ on 8.0 PCMCIA wireless
I made a lot of noise when SuSE 8.0 came out about the bugs in the new wireless PCMCIA configuration and wrote up a rather ugly hack to get it working for the SuSE FAQ. Since then, I've read a couple of posts about a fix from SuSE, at first on the FTP site, now in Yast Online Update. Here are the patch details: Bug-ID: pcmcia-1138 Kind: recommended - fixes wireless lan problems: we now use orinoco driver instead of wlan-ng for most cards - updates /usr/share/doc/packages/pcmcia/{LIESMICH,README}.SuSE - fixes some minor bugs I want to confirm that that the fix indeed works as promised, even for cards that use encryption keys other than key [1]. The updated README.SuSE now includes a detailed description of how the new system works, which configuration files to use, and which ones are updated by the patch. Togan, please update the FAQ to reference the patch now instead of the ugly hack I recommended. Very nice work, SuSE. Thanks! I just did a Yast online update, and the "fix" did not make the Netgear MA401 card that worked fine under 7.3 work under 8.0. My older Lucent Gold card still works. I'd like to get the Netgear card to work, tho, as it is a better card in several respects. Any suggestions to the point of getting the MA401 card to work?
