I got a system freshly installed a while ago. I come back to it now to configure it. I had this system installed with mailman and it was running but I hadn't configured anything so root got bombarded with cron qrunner. I paniced and did rpm -e mailman but this didn't solve the cron problem as it gave me a few permission denied messages. I then went into yast to reinstall mailman to therefore cleanly uninstall it. Now I mirror suse mirror from sourceforge and I get on reinstall of package: mailman #################################################unpacking of archive failed on file xxx xx/usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/README.SuSE: cpio: open failed - Permission denied xxx xx ... With error I thought my mirror must have been dirty so I went over to ftp.suse.com and I get the exact same error when installing this package. I did shut cron down before this. mailman is cool but the only thing which sucks is that you don't have a clean way of stopping mailman unless I am just stupid. I got a mailbox with 25000 messages in it now. How do I get rid of this most efficiently? Interesting permissions: mail:/etc # ls -l /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman ls: /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/TODO: Permission denied ls: /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/UPGRADING: Permission denied ls: /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/README.SuSE: Permission denied ls: /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/gnu-COPYING-GPL: Permission denied total 9 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 138 May 19 23:52 . drwxr-xr-x 359 root root 8196 Apr 16 00:34 .. This is after I did mail:/etc # rm -r /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman rm: cannot remove `/usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/TODO': Permission denied rm: cannot remove `/usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/UPGRADING': Permission denied rm: cannot remove `/usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/README.SuSE': Permission denied rm: cannot remove `/usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/gnu-COPYING-GPL': Permission denied rm: cannot remove directory `/usr/share/doc/packages/mailman': Directory not empty mk _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
