[opensuse] sendmail segfaults
Hi all and thank you for what you do. I am posting here about a problem i am just noticing on a one year old 10.2 - x86-64 opensuse daily sendmail segfaults notifications in my /var/log/messsages Jun 18 06:03:35 server kernel: sendmail[20460]: segfault at 0000555554000000 rip 00002b41811c5f03 rsp 00007fff2b0c3980 error 4 It happens actually about 1 or 2 times a day on a loaded and working fine server (as it seems to be at last). The sendmail is the standard sendmail-8.13.8-22 rpm I am noticing same issue with a self compiled imapd. Does anyone have an idea where to look for ? Thank you for any useful hint. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Your memory may be faulty if it happends usually with different daemons.

No wonder if you use "UW IMAP", I suggest you to stay 10000 KM away from that thing, do not ever trust it, it is a brain-damaged piece of software. -- “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” - Gandhi Cristian Rodríguez R. Your memory may be faulty if it happends usually with different daemons. it happenned with a very loaded daemon too consuming huge amounts of memory.
Things making me think you are right, i am just seeing the sendmail seems to segfault everytime on the same address since last year: segfault at 0000555554000000

Well, one problem less then (laughs) ! I used it for years, and all was fine under 32 bits anyway. Even now, it works fine, only one or 2 faults with hundreds of daily connexions things are not really disastrous.

How are things going? Was the memory the problem? Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Unfortunately, I cant' do offline memory tests actually. This is a production server, a few segfaults are still happening once or twice per day but there is no visible consequence. I'll try test it later.

Larry, Install "mcelog" it will help narrow down the problem. It will log "Machine Check Exceptions" (mce) and if you receive any, you are guaranteed 99.999%, it is a hardware problem. No shutdown required. When I was chasing a similar problem, I set a simple cron job to run once a minute and notify me if an error occurred. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
