Mod_rewrite is used for a lot of things, so that's a rather general question. There's also mod_vhost_alias form mass virtual hosting, if that's what you are after. For general instructions see the examples listed at http://www.apache.org. There's a good mod_rewrite tutorial there, too. http://www.apache.org/docs/misc/rewriteguide.html For specific information, you might have better luck on a more focused group such as comp.infosystems.www.servers.unix. Yup I've read that but still can't figure it out.. I'm trying to setup URL rewriting for VirtualHosts using mod_rewrite. I'd like http://www.hostname.rse.com (for example) to draw its files from /webs/rse/hostname but somehow I'm not doing this correctly. I've setup the following in my apache 1.3.14 w/mod_rewrite: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.[^.]+\.rse\.com$ RewriteRule ^(.+) %{HTTP_HOST}$1 [C] RewriteRule ^www\.([^.]+)\.rse\.com(.*) /home/$1$2 Does it matter if I am using VirtualHosts at the same time? I'm not sure what I am missing. Thanks for any help you can provide! I'll be sure to mention your help publically after I finish this massive project. At 05:08 PM 4/10/00 -0700, Bill Moseley wrote:

Hi, [line wrap is turned off for this message]
RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.[^.]+\.rse\.com$ RewriteRule ^(.+) %{HTTP_HOST}$1 [C] RewriteRule ^www\.([^.]+)\.rse\.com(.*) /home/$1$2
I don't see a problem.
A request for
GET /test HTTP/1.0
HOST: www.hostname1.rse.com
Servers up /webs/rse/home/hostname1/test
Isn't that what you want?
What does your rewrite log tell you?
