Can anyone recommend a _inexpensive_ decent sound card? In the past I mainly use SuSE for servers, so it's not been an issue. Now I'm looking to try to use SuSE for a DT box, and coming from the mac end of things, we always had sound.
I have looked at: CompUSA brand (hey don't laugh, they have decent NIC cards) Mad Dog Creative Labs Diamond Multimedia Turtle Beach
All the cards I see don't list linux... it must matter right? I'm not looking to spend over $75.US and would like to not go over $50. I'm not looking for total 7.1 surround sound, just decent sound. I may not like using suse as a dt and don't want to get in the hole for too much $. I find sites that tell how to configure the cards, but nothing on what brand-make-model they are.
Since your running 10.0, it's safe to assume your running alsa. http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/ They don't put Linux on the box, because they don't provide "support" for the drivers, even though in some cases, they contributed the driver. Creative is a hard one to beat, and if you have any used pc parts stores, you should be able to find supported ones for under $35. They also leave themselves open to changing chipsets if necessary (by not putting Linux on the box) so they could change on a whim, or budget, like they do with network cards. Just in case you go against the grain, (does anyone still use this anymore?) http://www.opensound.com/osshw.html -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
