So, I am not the only one who didn't receive notification, by both smart and zyppo, of the upgrade for FF until today. Most interesting.
I just checked my version......have *.12. 'Must have come in and I didn't realize it. My bad. :(
Fred
But my observation still stands- both smart and zyppo informed me this morning that there was a new copy of FF.
No doubt that you did. I switched to using just Yast for updates with 10.3. When the new FF came in....I can't tell you. I was talking within the past hour to a friend who runs Win XP (Pro) and mentioned that FF was ugraded to *.12 to fix a security hole. He immediately 'fired up' his copy of FF and found that- FF was at v*.12. That is, FF upgraded itself, just like my wife's copy did. As far as I am concerned, there is no need to totally rely on opensuse to keep FF uptodate for you. (BTW, v3 rc1, or something, is now available which has more bells-and-whistles in it but because it cannot handle all the addons I am using I scrapped it and went back to *.12.) No......of course not. It's strange though that some have had an update via FF and others from an update source via Yast or whatever.

I don't have a "test" system around now, otherwise I'd be testing a lot of diff. packages....like 11.0. ;) From what I have read, FF 3 will be a MAJOR release with many "goodies" not see or heard of before. I think MickySoft is going to have their work cut out for them. :) Fred -- "Security" in Windows comes from patching a sieve. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Get yourself some cradles and put HDs into them and then you will be able to test to your hearts desire while leaving your main OS untouched. I have 2 sets of 2x HDs which I use to test on (and, oh, my wife's computer -- but don't tell her this! :-) ) and the 3rd set contains my main OS which is not touched until I decide that I have built up enough courage to switch over to the new version of opensuse :-) . Yep.......IF I can manage the time, that's a great way to go.

My "method" has been since 6.3, if I remember correctly, to test a current release on my "main" production box and a laptop. If all goes well, and after using it for a week or so, start to move other systems to the new release. I've not had any major problems yet with any release, except where there are hardware problems like no native drivers or a 64-bit driver when a 32-bit driver won't work, as in the case of Epson scanners. Because of the latter NOT having a 64-bit Iscan available, I don't recommend Epson scanners and mandate the purchase of HP instead. All, I guess I've been fairly fortunate, I guess. You can use the standard opensource scanner software instead, with epson scanners. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Not so strange. The default is YOU. The suse version is slightly different. If you activate the other method once, it will be used thereafter, I think. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Actually, with both versions installed, you will have both method used. Firefox from Mozilla web site will update itself, zypper (YOU) will update openSUSE version. -- Regards, Rajko.
