HI, here's a little question: when I boot-up it says I'm running kernel i386 version 2.2.16-SMP. What does the SMP extension do; and why does my vmware not work with that extension? Symmetric Multiple Processors: i.e. the kernel is compiled to run on a machine with more than one CPU. Two or more CPUs are unusual in PCs. If you have only one CPU, don't use the SMP kernel. JDL Pit Apps wrote:

Funny I just have on pII333mhz!!! I am booting with loadlin and maybe I'm
taking the wrong image file; but I took the vmlinuz in the /boot/ directory
and that has to be the right one. How do I change my kernel to just
2.2.16???
