[SuSE Linux] X server configuration problem in SuSE 5.2
Hi. I really like SuSE 5.2 and am trying to install it on my Thinkpad 560e after succeeding on my desktop. The installation works very well now, except for the X server. When I do "startx", the screen is lit but unreadable (just white on white), and on quitting (via ctrl-alt-backspace), an error message appears, which I cannot figure out from perusing the documentation and xfree faq: FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" referent is 2, should be 1; fixing. I have checked my fontpaths, have run mkfontdir in each font folder. Nothing seems to fix the problem. The curious thing is that on an installation of RedHat 4.1 (with XFree 3.3.1 added) on the same machine, the same XF86Config file works perfectly, with no problem. I can't see any difference in the font directories between the RH and the SuSE installations, but there must be something about the font installation on SuSE that is making the problem. --Or am I missing something obvious?
