Re: [SuSE Linux] StarOffice 5.0
Even on my 300 Mhz Pentium II machine with 190 MB of memory it took about 20-30 seconds to load that monster. Needless to say, I removed it from my system and got Applix. You must have something wrong with your system then. I have a AMD K6 233 with 98 megs of ram and it takes about 15 seconds the first time to load and about 4 secs. there after. Runs VERY fast in my opinion.

Strange... On my PPro150with 64Meg with UW SCSI-3 it takes about 28sec to initially load as well (3sec thereafter). In comparison MS Word97 on the same machine takes 1sec to load initially and "no time" thereafter. SO runs somewhat slow too. It thrashes the hard disk during ANY operation. Fonts are horrible in SO, especially, Times New Roman. As an experiment, open a document, change font to Times New Roman 12points, change the zoom to "Optimal". Now, try to use the delete or back space keys. For some reason the least expected parts of the line get deleted. Same types of fonts look fine in netscape, for example. Time for me to get new fonts? OK, just an opinion. alexm - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

If you don't like the current weather in Germany it's been my experience to just wait 10 minutes, it'll change... ;)

Hello -- Thought I would drop everyone a line and say 'hi' because I'm brand new to the list.. I've run Linux for a couple of years on different computers (486's and old Pentium's) but I just got a new computer that brings me into the modern age. I've got Win95 (shudder, for work) on 900M and SuSE 5.3 on 5gig. Finally I can take full advantage of linux -- before I was stuck to the console (which is not a bad thing in and of itself) & had to use the internet through M$-Windoze. Anyway, I'm an open source nut in the Richard Stallman vein, to let you know where I'm coming from. Hopefully I'll be able to help out some people on this list, and some people can help me out! My first order of business is getting an english translation of those german .wav files that come on the 5.3 cd ..! -- Ryan - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

You can be on a console and still use the internet? You lost me

o.k. I guess I don't have to worry about you starting a qt-kde-gnome-gtk debate....due to some recent developments... welcome. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Well, in my fake life (work) I do perl programming for an ISP and need a graphical browser. Lynx is fine for me most of the time, but I need to see what a client is going to see (which means being forced to have IE4 4somewhere on my machine.. shudder).

Yeah, I guess the real question is if the opening of qt is going to kill gtk. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Welcome, Xavi, When you get around to it, compare VC against any Java program you develop. I found it to be about 10x easier to develop an X program using Java (and AWT) compared to VC++ 4.0.
