[opensuse] installing package glibc-locale-2.19-16.18.1.x86_64 needs 39MB on the / filesystem
I'm upgrading an Intel Compute Stick - it started with a vanilla openSUSE 13.2. The root filesystem has about 7Gb, currently only 450Mb available. During zypper patch I get this: Installation of glibc-locale-2.19-16.18.1 failed: Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: installing package glibc-locale-2.19-16.18.1.x86_64 needs 39MB on the / filesystem To test it, I created a 39MB file in /tmp, so what is the real problem? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.8°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The amount needed seem to be decreasing after I say "Retry": Installation of glibc-locale-2.19-16.18.1 failed: Error: Subprocess failed. Ooops, now it needs a little more: Installation of glibc-locale-2.19-16.18.1 failed: Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: installing package glibc-locale-2.19-16.18.1.x86_64 needs 33MB on the / filesystem I wonder if this message is trying to say it is _missing_ 33Mb of free space on root? (or 39Mb or 28Mb). -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.9°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, the message means that it needs that space more, because disk is full when it expands the archive. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

Answer in https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2015-10/msg00071.html thread IIRC. IIRC, package management system mishandling hard links when calculating requirements for the lebenty gazillion files in that rpm. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." It looks like the error message is simply in error :-) The package needs an _additional_ 39Mb on the root filesystem, not a total 39Mb. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
