In gnome, it locks the whole desktop requiring a hard-reset of the box. The crash reports are: Have a look at the file called places.sqlite. My wife's computer was doing similar things. I remember reading that doing a VACUUM on this file often made FF 'nippier', but there was no way I could apply the command line script- it just wouldn't do any "vacuuming". I had a look inside this sqlite file and it appeared (compared to the one I have) corrupted so I replaced it with one from a backup done a while back and now FF is behaving again. Your problem may have a different source of course but won't hurt to have a look....

Remove (at least temporarily) your Java plugin. All your crashes point to the IcedTeaPlugin.so. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ah hah! Will do and I'll report back. I've got to shuffle that drive back into the laptop to check. So it's going to be an hour or so. Wonder why the java plugin went nuts? I haven't loaded anything special in that regard, just what 11.3 pulls in. Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Heck, Firefox won't even start in safe mode -- or under a new login -- or under root. No, since my first guess is still my guess. You are still crashing in IcedTeaPlugin.so@0x9409 So how about just doing what I proposed? safe-mode is only for addons not for plugins. Sometimes you have to hit me with a big stick before I get it :p rpm -e java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin firefox started and loaded without the immediate crash, but then about 3/4 of the way through the transfer of the mozilla page telling you that firefox was updated, it locked my box up requiring a hard reset? (I guess there was still part of the plugin resident in memory) After the reboot, firefox loaded fine. So, as usual, you nailed it! The question now becomes -- What is wrong with the IcedTeaPlugin? I will probably never notice it missing, so I'm not that concerned about it, but what I don't know is -- what additional information can I post that will help? Just let me know and I'm happy to do it. Thanks again for your help. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. I actually have no idea. I'm basically never using Java applets in the browser but I hear regularly about frequent crashes with every other version of IcedTea. My advice to people relying on Java applets is to use the sun plugin and jre instead which usually works fine.
