I wonder how much the stability is related to your xserver installation. Have you checked your xserver error logs?

Same feeling here. One feature that SO5.2 can receive high evaluation is solid operation. I use it most of the time. For me, the one, but big weakness of SO5.2 is it's very high demand for memory.
