[opensuse] Beginner: desktop folder
I am sure, this is a really stupid question, but: how can move shortcuts (to application) into and out of the "desktop folder" = that semitransparent area on the desktop which contains by default 4-5 such shortcuts. (and maybe make disappear and reappear ...) I succeeded (as a test) to copy a file there, but so far all efforts to copy shortcut (like for example a shortcut to OO Writer) have failed. The shortcut winds up on the desktop alright - but not in the transparent, movable area. Sorry for the trouble. Sorry for the trouble. Thomas Hi You need to right-click on the desktop and unlock widgets, make your changes and then right-click and lock again.

This is only true if you're making changes to the _configuration_ or _placement_ of the Desktop widget, *not* if you're trying to add a link to an application or a link to a directory to the Desktop widget. Generally to add any shortcut to the Desktop widget, you simply drag/drop and click Link in the little context menu that pops up - note, you do *not* have to unlock the widget to drag/drop. I've tested on my KDE4.3.1 install and dragging an icon from the KMenu to the Desktop works, as does dragging files, and folders. Mariusz suggested an alternative method which should also work... but like I said simply dragging teh icong from the KMenu to the desktop should work. Thomas, I think we need more information about what you mean when you said "The shortcut winds up on the desktop alright - but not in the"transparent, movable area." How is your desktop configured? (Right click on the desktop and select Desktop Settings. Is your Desktop Activity set to "Desktop", "Folder View" or "Plain Desktop"? This setting makes a huge difference in the behavior of the KDE4 desktop. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just newly installed SUSE 11.2 Desktop activity is set to "desktop". Originally the "Desktop folder" (that is what it says in its left upper corner) is a movable, transparent area ON the desktop. The shortcut I tried to copy INTO that area appeared on the "underlying" desktop, but not within the transparent area. These two items are not connected. AND and I made another very stupid mistake. I clicked on the "cashew" icon right upper corner it was and there poped up some dialog asking me, if I want to set the behavior of the various desktops to be different. I checked that option -- and the transparent "desktop" disappeared, so did my setting of "default blue" as wallpaper. Is there maybe a way I can reverse this setting? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
