This was a simple RTFM if ever I've seen one. After days of frustration with the camera (unsupported or so I thought) and the card reader, I went further into the camera's internal menu and found an option to have the camera appear as either "Camera" or "Disk Drive". I switched to disk drive and SuSE automatically detected and mounted the camera as /media/sda1. Now I can take this card reader back to the store because as it turns out, it didn't work with Windows either. Thanks for all the help. John David Johanson wrote:

Try "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" without the quotes obviously, and see what you get. If it returns your devices then treat as scsi. In my 8.1 distro my digidrive was recognized during the install, but the 7.1 distro refuses to recognize it, most probably due to the difference in usb "smartness" between the two distros. If scsi, use the s prefix, if not try the h prefix as shown below. Then use the next higher letter for the drive identifier followed by the number 1. My system is almost exclusively scsi, so it works well with linux. Mixed systems can be a bit trickier. If this doesn't get you up and running, "ring" me back. I'm guessing that you can use the sd"x"1 approach and all will work fine.

I have a hama card reader which is similar. I'm trying to figure out how to mount it. How do you mount yours? By what device? I have a HP Photosmart 850 which doesn't seem to work as a mass storage device.
