Hello all. I have this oddity i need ironed out.. I have a NAT'ed network with a webserver on the inside. I have a port redirect to it from the external world. (internet) ---- [Firewall] ---- [Webserver] - [Workstation] I have a regged domain (rikjoh.com) which is working "for the world". But if I want www.rikjoh.com from th einside i get: "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.rikjoh.com" It works fine if i enter the INTERNAL IP. (192.168...) What do i need to do to be able to use the "right" adress? It gives me hell trying to check my site's links -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 70 464 99 39 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

You need to setup your internal dns to point to the internal address of the webserver. Ken

A simple addition to your /etc/hosts file will suffice. Your computer should query this file; recognize that it is in fact a node on the local subnet. Then it will access the ARP table for the MAC address of the station in question. If it is not already mapped in the ARP table, your system will execute an ARP query ot the subnet. This will all be done prior to execution of a DNS_REQUEST onto your internet trunk. Add the following line to your /etc/hosts file: 192.168.x.x www.rikjoh.com www HTH. -- Thomas Jones Linux-Howtos Network Administrator OpenGPG Key: 0x6A3DF6E9

I DID have www in my hosts file. 192.168.1.2 talen.rikjoh.com talen www I could 'ping www' and get replies from the server but 'ping www.rikjoh.com' gave me the external adress... -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 70 464 99 39 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

I DID have www in my hosts file.
192.168.1.2 talen.rikjoh.com talen www
I could 'ping www' and get replies from the server but 'ping www.rikjoh.com' gave me the external adress...
Which it will because you do not have www.rikjoh.com defined in your hosts file. Change the above line to: 192.168.1.2 talen.rikjoh.com www.rikjoh.com talen As was suggested above. Ken
