[SLE] @home cable modem in linux

could you be more specific. I have @home and I am trying in vain to get to the web.. I am also a newbie and have all of a month of linux under my belt. I know this may be a pain but there are alot of @home users out here and most are having a hard time.. I have the 3com5809s card I think .. so that may be different.. I do have that set up and I can do a isapnp and it seems to be working properly. well all i basically did was enter the info from the @home work order.i didnt use dhcp or bootp i chose automatic ip...like i said i did this in redhat61 which was just an experiment i still havent gotten it running in suse yet...but to get your card detected you could boot from cd or floppy and load the network modules, it recognized my intel farallon as a tulip.o..... and when i did the loading of network modules the first time it automatically detected them at boot time from then on....i booted from the cd #2 if you use the cd #1 then yast 1 will load up into gui install process... well if i get suse running the cable modem i will post exactley what i did... hey by the way the proxy for @home is http://proxy:8080 is this correct? i wanna run some of my apps through it?but need to make sure that is correct? I have @home, but with a static IP. Lucky I guess. I have a Cisco UBR900 modem that seems locked to my ethernet card. I used to could use other ethernet cards, but now I have to use the SMC whatever they gave me. Luckily it's a straight-up tulip card driver. Otherwise, I have heard that out of the box SuSE DHCP don't work with @home and to use DHCPD. There's been a bunch of postings on this in the last week or so. This list is searcheable....I suggest to use www.geocrawler.com to find what's been said and said again on this topic in the past few months... It seems that the SuSE DHCP client (DHClient) is not working very well (at least within the default configuration framework). The basic hint anyone would suggest is to use another DHCP client to get on the network: DHCPCD. Most SuSE 6.X using a cable modem will be able to get connected with DHCPCD 1.3.18 (even 1.3.17). But before complaining of any kind of troubles, you should all verify that the NIC is properly recognized by the OS. Try 'lsmod' as root user to see if the correct module is loaded. If no, correct it (be sure of what kind of NIC you are using and which module you need). If it still doesn't work, now you can complain about the DHCP client of SUSE. Using DCHPCD should correct the problem. It all depends on what kind of DHCP Server your ISP is using. There had been some links on linuxdoc.org and metalab.unc.edu about cablemodem mini HOWTO's, but they are no longer available.
