Emergency Rescue Diskette not working!
Hello, I created an Emergency Rescue Diskette in YaST. It doesn't work. Upon bootup, I get the message "Loading Boot Record from Floppy .. OK" and that's it. I tried another diskette. Same thing. A while back, I upgraded to SuSE 6.3 using a friends CD. I inserted a SuSE 7.2 CD to create the Rescue Diskette. I have also tried a SuSE 6.2 CD. Any ideas? My computer is fine by the way, I just want the diskette in case something goes wrong. Thanks George __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The rescue disk is not bootable; it's just a compressed image of a SuSE
filesystem. This is what you need to do:
0. RTFM. ;-)
1. Boot from a boot floppy (or the SuSE CD-ROM).
2. Enter 'manual' at the boot prompt (make sure you load any modules you
require).
3. Select your language.
4. Select 'Installation/Start system'.
5. Insert rescue disk (or use image on CD-ROM).
6. Select Start installation->Rescue system and select source, e.g. floppy,
CD-ROM etc.
7. The image is then decompressed into a RAM floppy disk.
If you want to read the decompressed image follow this procedure:
# cp /media/cdrom/disks/rescue /root/rescue.gz
# gunzip /root/rescue.gz
# mount -t ext2 -o loop /root/rescue /mnt
