First off, thanks for those of you who helped out with the sound issues. In Yast2, under sound and advanced options there is an options for thinkpad sound. Setting this to a value of 1 really took care of my issues of sound under Linux. However I also run VMWare emulating a win2k install. The sound output works just fine, but microphone is really messed up. Has anyone had any experience with this? Another question has to do with the disk drive performance. After doing some reading on Linux-thinkpad.com I found the following suggestion: execute: hdparm -c1 -d1 -m16 /dev/hda Reading the man pages on hdparm, it seems that there is some risk in setting 32 bit I/O support and dma support. Everything seems to be running fine, and the machine runs much much better. All gui items used to slow way down if any disk I/O was occurring, after the change, performance works like I would expect it (Disk I/O should really not affect the GUI that much). So my questions on the hdparm are this: 1. Is anyone aware if these settings can cause any trouble on my Thinkpad T20? 2. Where do I set these parameters so that they will take affect on boot up. Thanks, Ron P.S. SuSE 7.2 runs really well on this Thinkpad. I would recommend it to anyone. I've just ordered 7.3 since I have been using 7.2 (installed off the ftp site) and I figure I better put some $ on the table here. I will try to document the complete install on this Thinkpad when 7.3 comes in. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
