[opensuse] no space left on / device
10.2 X locked up. No keyboard response except CAD. I was able to init 1 when CAD surfaced tty1, then back to init 3 and 5, but I can't log into X due to lack of space on /. I have no idea what did it, and Google isn't being very helpful in finding a procedure to figure out what's wasting space. Since rug broke 1.5 weeks ago I haven't installed or updated anything. /var/log, /var/tmp and /tmp aren't responsible. Where else do I look, and for what? -- "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. OK, I missed this on first look in /var/log. /var/log/acpid was 981518K. That's why it's good practice to have /var and /tmp as separate partitions. :] I've started combining /usr and /opt with /, but /var and /tmp are always on a different partition. good luck brian -- Brian Jackson Photo Sports ~ People ~ Events http://www.BrianJacksonPhoto.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As Brian suggested, put /var on a separate partition. There are also a couple of other directories in /var that can eat up space. You could also create a logrotate entry for this file, look in /etc/logrotate.d/ for the various config files. -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
