[opensuse] Old kde bug.
There's an old bug reported now and then for a good 4 years that I can remember and recently again......the task bar disappears. It would be a good idea if this one was squashed for good. I do have an easy temp. fix, however. First, it appears to only happen, or for the most part anyway, when you have chosen to hide the taskbar in the personal settings in KDE. The problem is that somehow the kickerrc config. file gets corrupted.....how I'm not sure. Here's what I've done to work around it. Put the following in your /home/?/.profile file.....at the end......... cp /home/?/.kde/share/config/kickerrc /home/?/.kde/share/config/kickerrc.org Every time you log on as a user, a copy of kickerrc called kickerrc.org (for original) is written. If you loose the taskbar, DON'T logout, but use konq. to delete the kickerrc file and copy the *.org file to kickerrc. Then, ctrl-alt-del to kill the desktop. Relog into your user account and you should be back in business. As an alternative fix, edit the kickerrc file, and change "true" at the end of this line to "false" then save the file. Use ctrl-alt-del to kill the desktop and log back on. AutoHidePanel=true Hope this helps those who've been hit with this before. Hey, thanks!!
'Saright! Also, from 2 phone calls I rec'd tonight.....1 from a 10.3 user and 1 from a 10.2 user I haven't converted to 10.3 yet. I walked them through the fix on the phone, the problem may not be "big," but it's still a pain in the butt!! It now appears to be related to hiding the task bar. I have yet to have someone who doesn't hide it have this problem. Maybe this will help the developers resolve this issue. Does that make you an irresponsible developer? I would EXPECT developers and project managers to keep on eye on user lists. How else would they know what the issues are? -- kai ponte www.perfectreign.com genuine windows replacement part: www.opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Probably the function of the bug report facilities, ya think? - -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn4472 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHGnoKClSjbQz1U5oRAp5VAJ0WrqhQBgRPWmufwESiKJqy2EFyUQCdH3sK f4Y8nhGDNmK3OSMnsooxGOM= =mqCu -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, that too. I wouldn't expect developers to work off of a mailing list, however they should be paying attention in order to know what is going on in the real world. Most people - such as me - wouldn't know the first thing about how to report a bug. -- kai ponte www.perfectreign.com genuine windows replacement part: www.opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

They don't have the time to do that and aren't paid for doing so. They do read relevant lists like the KDE, binutils, glibc or gcc development lists.

That's why pages like http://en.opensuse.org/Submitting_Bug_Reports exist. If you want the bug you experience to be noticed by SUSE/Novell developers and other People reponsible for the distribution, you must report it via bugzilla. You probably mean ctrl+alt+bksp in order to kill your KDE session instantly without saving config files (which could restore the damage). -- Carlos FL Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
You also don't even have to reload the desktop, just use ctrl-esc to "un-hide" the taskbar, then edit preferences, and toggle the auto-hide to 'refresh' the settings and your immediately back in business. B-) On Sunday 21 October 2007 2:38:16 pm Carlos F Lange wrote:
