I have just finished installing SuSE Linux 8.1, then I wanted to setup KWinTV to make use of my Hauppauge TV card, which has worked perfectly with previous versions of SuSE Linux. I never got to see the application. The only thing I saw was KDE´ s crash handler. Has anyone else experienced this? I have installed, updated through YOU and setup HTTP, SSH and SMTP servers. Nothing else, before trying KWinTV. Here is the output from KDE´ s crash handler: ====================================================== (no debugging symbols found)...(no debugging symbols found)... David, this migth be related with the screensaver. Never had this anymore after switching off the screensaver and using the power management to send the monitor to sleep instead. Cheers .... Wolfi ============================================= mailto:wolfi_z@gmx.net

I don´ t use screensaver on this system. Using APM on this system is not an option, since it is an SMP system. APM is not SMP safe. Best regards, David List
I am running 8.0pro, 8.1 is not avbl here :( Kwintv is a bit weird but I am using xawtv now and it work ok. Now, my GF2 with 32MB running at 1024x768 with ViewSonic VG150 LCD can only show a smaller full screen (about 800x600, four side with black strips), in windoz, there is a WDM driver, so how about Linux? Anyway to get either kwintv or xawtv to show using the max screen area? Thanks :) Dennis

I added the following line in ~/.xawtv and the black strips are gone: fullscreen = 800x600 In kwintv go to Settings > Configure kwintv > Screen and set the full screen mode to 800x600. I don't know if this will work with NTSC or anything else since I live in Europe and only have PAL. Well, it works w/ NTSC here; Voodoo3 3500 TV card on a Iiyama Pro 400, SuSE 8.0, xawtv 3.74 Great tip - thanks! Rich Ming-Che Lee wrote:

Just tried running KWinTV as root. That works. Is this something about privileges? The user who cannot run KWinTV is member of the following groups: users, uucp, video and dialout. Best regards, David List
