[opensuse] motives for preferring 'evergreen' ?
Hello List - perhaps, not always, are the motives to ensure the smooth-running of mission-critical software - perhaps, sometimes, the motive may be 'fear' of the unknown, when up-grading to a newer version .................... else, we have to thank the net-gods for their unfailing courtesy : _ toujours la politesse ................. best regards -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Right now a lot of Evergreen users are non-systemd users. 11.4 was the last openSUSE release without systemd. 11.4 will be supported by evergreen for a another year I think, so sticking with it is a reasonable option for a lot of people. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Evergreen#Supported_distributions fyi: strangely, a lot of very experienced linux hands are anti-systemd, so you may find a bunch of very experienced people using what would normally be an out of date distro. I think the key motive is - Upgrading a running system causes down-time and is always a significant risk. One of my core production systems has been running openSUSE 11.0 for 1041 days. Never openSUSE versions has brought no new/needed functionality, so upgrading would _only_ mean down-time and risk. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (19.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
