I never knew they has a repository, I always just downloaded the RPM from their site, and installed it directly. Theoretically, this is smarter anyway for a security oriented package like Spideroak. You want to know about every time it updates and not get blind sided by an update that breaks something. I noticed they stopped mentioning Opensuse on their web page, but upon downloading the RetHat rpm it installed perfectly. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

They blew a lot of heavy smoke when they first offered ?free? space and openSUSE support, but google ends up cheaper and just as easy.... windoz now offers a free 7gb, as usual, last one to the trough. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

But those (dropbox, Onedrive, Box, and GoogleDrive) aren't even in the same market as SpiderOak. The others all tell you right up front that they will give your content to any authority that asks. Spideroak just tell Law Enforcement you can't get content from us. https://spideroak.com/law_enforcement/ Spideroak is focused on two different fronts, Sync, and Backups, including version history. (They have sharing as well, but I haven't used that much, nor do I sync with it). I mostly use the Backup, backing up two different machines (one Linux, one Windows) with versions so I can step back in time on any file to see older versions. Most software development files. So slightly different market segments. Here is a recent pricing matrix for the big four http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-3513_7-57618942/onedrive-dropbox-google-drive-a... The clear winner on Price points is Google Drive. I have all of them. The winner on integration (IMHO) is OneDrive (skydrive) as it integrates directly into the file system of Windows 8.1 without any additional installed things running on your machine. That said, there's a limit to just how closely I want stuff integrating into my Linux machines. I don't like the restrictions Google Drive, it seems overly focused on capturing your documents into google doc formats, which suits some people, but not me. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This isn't really new is it? I thought SpiderOak stopped building openSUSE RPMs back in 2012. I remember this from Google+: https://plus.google.com/118182144522076820414/posts/huwnFyu31zP Plus... the "last RPM" you listed is dated 11 Oct 2012? There have been several releases since Oct 2012, including a branding fix for SpiderOak on openSUSE in June of 2013. The repo version you were using (or at least referencing) looks to be a REALLY old release anyway. I still remember SpiderOak started on openSUSE 11.3 with a lot of whistle and bells. IIRC, That was a launching startup marketing on Linux (openSUSE). It used to work smooth and nice. No Linux distros had it. I am curious. What happened? Now other distros like Slackware (not complaining about the distro) are mentioned and it does not say RPM based but Fedora based. I remember that as of the following version, 11.4, it got withdrawn from the non-OSS repo but there was no good explanation provided that I noticed as to why. It could have been a technical licensing incompatibility, or maybe just SpiderOak were disappointed with openSUSE user numbers, I don't know. Later I also noticed how all mention of openSUSE disappeared from their site and download page. There was nothing to clearly indicate whether the 'Fedora-based' RPM was openSUSE-compatible. I recall commenting about this at the time but whether it was to them direct I'm not sure. It's almost lost them my custom though because they don't seem very supportive of openSUSE any more and you therefore have to wonder if the RPM package will remain compatible. As it is I could easily do without the service anyway and use other solutions, as I only have the free 2GB for occasional convenience of copying across other machines or for extra off-site backups. I emailed them yesterday, and they replied that tre Red Hat rpm works perfectly with all current and recent OS versions, but they didn't offer any explanation as to why they don't mention that on their website.
Probably got pissed at some bad mouthing, real or imagined from opensuse staff somewhere along the way.
