Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] ET4000/W32i at 16 Colour???
When I try to change the resolution by adding DefaultColorDepth 16 the server crashes with a message that 16 bit is not supported by my card. I know that it can run at this depth as that is the normal resolution I run under Win95 in 800x 600.
Win95's graphic technology and X-window's server technology are differant.
I have an IBM 17P monitor with a HorizSync of 30-82 and a VertSync of 50-110. The card has 2M of memory.
Am I missing something or is 16 bit simply not going to work with this card in Linux?

I have a trident 9685 providia (no tv) with 4megs edo (unsure if it's true edo ram). I used SuSE's Trident server and it at least let me have 8bit color at 1024x768. My monitor is CTX 1562gm which can go up to 1280x1024 (with some hacking). With Xfree's svga server, I couldn't get better than 640x480. As soon as then get all the functionality in these servers implemented then it could possibly achieve the maximum performance from your video card. Win95 has a lot more money and developers making drivers and X is us and some dedicated companies and organizations (metro-x, xfree86, accel-x, suse, etc...) You might want to e-mail SuSE and see if they plan on releasing the functions you want in their servers: x@suse.com Jonathan -- =========== =========== Jonathan Paul Cowherd jpcowh01@slug.louisville.edu <A HREF="http://www.slug.louisville.edu/~jpcowh01</A">http://www.slug.louisville.edu/~jpcowh01</A> This is my world and I am...
