[opensuse] How to force default outgoing Thunderbird mail account

I have multiple email accounts that I read in Thunderbird using its unified inbox feature. I am working to gradually eliminate a couple of accounts, and would like to force my replies to emails received in my old accounts to be sent using my new preferred account. I know how to set the default outgoing account in Thunderbird for new messages. Is there a way to force the use of a specific outgoing mail account when replying to messages received on different accounts? Thanks, Jim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks, Jim
Just go to Account settings, scroll to the bottom where it shows outgoing smtp server, and pick one to be the default, and remove all the others. Then in each account, add a Reply to address, and things will slowly take care of themselves. And set the outgoing server. Both of these actions are done on the same page in Thunderbird. Not everyone is going to fix their address book so you still have to keep those other mail accounts around or risk people losing contact with you. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Normally, you use the same smtp server for all your accounts. What you could do is set the "reply to" address to the account you want to use. Another possibility, on a per message basis, is to use the drop down "From:" list, where you can select the account you want to send from. That drop down list is available in the compose window. Also, some mail servers allow you to forward your mail to another account or pull it from another. Either way, the mail will appear in your desired account. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Forgot to mention, you can set up filters in Thunderbird to move messages from those other accounts into the one you want to use. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I only have two mail accounts in my T-Bird. I just checked and T-Bird picks the "From" depending on which account I'm reply to a message in. Replyint to this e-mail it uses my main account. When I reply to a message on the other it automatically chooses that e-mail address as sender. -- “Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.” -Albert Einstein _ _... ..._ _ _._ ._ ..... ._.. ... .._ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

What I would like is have mail to all accounts go to the inboxes for those accounts, visible in the single unified inbox that TB displays, but if I reply to a message received by the old account, the From: address in the compose window default to the new account. I have already set the Reply-to: in the old account, but would prefer everything going out to come from the new account without me (or my wife with the same situation on her computer) having to remember to select the new identity. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I think the 'Folder Account' extension will do what you want. Bob -- Bob Williams Sent from my laptop -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As I mentioned, you can always choose the from while in the compose window or your can change the reply to in the account settings. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
