That's funny, just got got latest from gnu.org a couple days ago and it was 2.2.1. release jan 13 2001. -- Mark Hounschell markh@compro.net
Yes, but the distribution wasn't built and tested with in the last few days. The developers have been putting this puppy together for quite sometime. I am sure that if there is a security risk with a version they have backported the fixes or that there will be fixes out before the version is released so everyone can do any immediate patching of the system. * Mark Hounschell (markh@compro.net) [010126 13:45]: =>Christopher Mahmood wrote: =>> =>> * Cleary, Mike (Cleary_Mike@emc.com) [010125 14:42]: =>> > The release notice I saw mentioned glibc2.2 =>> > Does anyone know if it will be with glibc2.2.1 instead of 2.0?? =>> =>> glibc-2.2-5. => =>That's funny, just got got latest from gnu.org a couple days ago =>and it was 2.2.1. release jan 13 2001. => -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:brosenb@suse.com --------------------------------------- SuSE Inc. 580 Second St Suite 210 Oakland CA 94607 U.S.A Tel: 1-510-628-3380 EXT:5086 Fax: 1-510-628-3381 --------------------------------------- "There are no problems, only solutions."

Well, I would assume since it was going to press and things are found after this..that they put the files up for immediate upgrade/update. * filip (vhf@skynet.be) [010126 14:13]: =>Well, I saw already some fixes and patches for 7.1 on the ftp server !!! =>Filip. => -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:brosenb@suse.com --------------------------------------- SuSE Inc. 580 Second St Suite 210 Oakland CA 94607 U.S.A Tel: 1-510-628-3380 EXT:5086 Fax: 1-510-628-3381 --------------------------------------- "There are no problems, only solutions."

Thorstan Kukuk would know why 2.2 was used. -- Cheers, Christopher Mahmood --------------------------------------------------------------- SuSE Inc., Tel: +1-510-628-3380, x5024 580 Second St., Suite 210 Fax: +1-510-628-3381 Oakland CA 94607 Public Key: USA http://www.suse.com/~ckm/key.gpg ---------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Hasenstein explained it already very good yesterday on this list. The glibc is a core component, much more important then the kernel (It is esay to boot another kernel, but you cannot boot another libc). All of our architectures bases on the same source code, so we will not change the glibc for PPC after Intel is released. And in the short time it is not possible to make all the tests we did already the last month. Thorsten -- Thorsten Kukuk http://www.suse.de/~kukuk/ kukuk@suse.de SuSE GmbH Schanzaeckerstr. 10 90443 Nuernberg Linux is like a Vorlon. It is incredibly powerful, gives terse, cryptic answers and has a lot of things going on in the background.
