I am trying to install 8.2 from the internet. Unfortunately, I am unable to find the boot image. I have been trying to find it from a Linux computer so I can use the DD program, but with all my luck lately, I probably better get the windows version as well. I am a newbie to Linux (only about 2 weeks with Red Hat 9). With all the turmoil going on about the changes at Red Hat, I thought I would try SuSE. Thanks in advance for the help. Buck

You won't find it. Or anyway, you shouldn't find it. If you want it, you're supposed to pay for it. I have to say that this is not entirely dissimilar to the policy of Microsoft [ducks quickly], but you get a better product for less money [reemerges nervously].

If you don't want to pay for SuSE, http://www.distrowatch.com/ will tell you as much as you need to know about more alternative distros than you feared could exist.

Incorrect, you will find all the boot iso's and modules here ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/8.2/boot or ftp://public.planetmirror.com/pub/suse/i386/8.2/boot or any other mirror. Have a read of the README in the above directory. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

What kind of talk is that. If you don't know where to find it then don't answer the question. SuSE made the boot.iso for those who couldn't pay for it. They don't make .iso's because yes they would like people to buy but also because making .iso's by paring down 6G of software is a PITA.' The boot.iso image (for CD) is located here.. ftp://ftp.gwdg.de:0/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/8.2/boot/boot.iso -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
I am very much grateful for your reply. Thank you I will try it tonight. I signed it... but it is asking for an Open Source Dreamweaver. What's wrong with a proprietary DreamWeaver for Linux? I can't see them making it open source. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Would you please do me a favor and check out http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/lmuielle_suselinux_internet.html? That's the page that tells me I can install 8.2 from the inet. Maybe you will read something I overlooked. Sorry, sleepy today. And I forgot to look up from my monitor and read the large sign on the wall: "Engage Brain before Operating Keyboard". Ah, one thing I hate about mailing lists -- worse, *archived* mailing lists -- is that the idiocies I perpetrate are undeletable, and there for the merriment of posterity. OK, so shoot me and chuck my corpse into the hyena cage.

SuSE Would certainly like that you pay for it, but, like any Linux, you can download it for free. The trick is, you can't download ISOs. You have to either buy a box, or install straight off the net. (I think you can also make floppy sets, but who wants to do that?). See http://www.suse.com/us/private/download/suse_linux/index.html for information. Andy Peter Evans wrote:
