Two questions. On my laptop I have a DVD +/-R burner. When I recently went to put a DVD in to perform a backup, I got the following message after K3B (automatically) came up: Writing device _NEC - DVD+-RW ND-6500A is automounted. Automounting can cause problems with CD/DVD writing, especially with rewritable media. Although it might all work just fine it is recommended to disable automounting completely for now. Solution: Replace the automounting entries in /etc/fstab with old-fashioned ones. What's that? If I disable automounting then wouldn't my DVD/CD's not mount like they're supposed to? Second question: The DVD I put in is 4.7 GB. I had used DAR to make DVD slices of 4.3 GB each. When I went to burn them on the DVD, K3B balked and told me I couldn't make DVD's larger than 4GB. Huh? This is the first time I try to make a large DVD on 10.0 but on this same machine under 9.3 I don't recall having that issue. (I'm not sure I was using the same DVD media.) I copied the files over to my Win2K machine, where they wrote just fine. (Though I did get about fifty viruses and spyware installs - JK.) What's up with that? -- kai www.perfectreign.com linux - genuine windows replacement part

I took "Suse" out of the search and found the answer to my second question. It seems that under K3b is a program called makeisofs - which actually handles the making of the filesystem for the DVD. This program apparently has a 4.0 GB limit on filesizes. I'll investigate further. -- kai www.perfectreign.com linux - genuine windows replacement part
