[opensuse] nvidia display proble in 11.3
Hi everyone I just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3. Now the maximum resolution I can get is 1280 x 960 and it is slow with poor quality. Before I had 1440 x 900 with crisp fast graphics. I've tried nomodeset on the kernel line as per the release instructions. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? nvidia 6100. Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It tried this but it won't compile. It says the kenel sources are built wrong y OWTTE. This is a DVD upgrade, 11.2 to 11.3. Then I chose 'failsafe at the command line and it went to to 1440 x 900 but sill not as good as it was in 11.2 Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

the nvidia drivers require kernel{your-flavour}-devel and maybe kernel-source installed to compile the new kernel. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Download the nvdia driver from its site. Also you need to install kernel-source, gcc and make. If you have nouveau installed, uninstall xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau and in YaST - System - etc/sysconfig Editor set System - Kernel - NO_KMS_IN_INITRD to yes. Reboot it to runlevel 3 and try to build the nvidia driver. TIA Hi After a lot of fighting with a similar problem, my screen referrer 1440x900, but Xorg went to 1440x960 all the time. I put this line in my .bashrc file xrandr --output default --mode 1440x900 --preferred
