This is not anything like a German writing English at all, odd. Must have meant "insure". Having lived in Germany now for 16 years, I have less problems with "odd" English than someone stright from the States. :)

I guess it's clear enough what one is supposed to do, but this is _not_ English. My son-in-law, who is a professional translator from the Russian, tells me that the cardinal rule of translation is this: professional translation should be done by native speakers of the language being translated into. It is only too obvious that the English versions of SuSE documentation (the manual, etc.) are being prepared by native speakers of German who are less than thoroughly conversant with English idioms. I complained about this over a year ago and was assured that the problem was being taken care of. Apparently not, since German locutions and word orders and even literal German words are liberally sprinkled throughout the manual.

As an American living and writing in Germany it is a lot harder that you might think. For example, my wife (who is German) and I together write a English stamp bulletin. She does the German to English translations and then I correct it. BUTTTTT, many times she "overrules" my grammer. Her "reason"... because she learned "better" English, ie Oxford, while her dear English speaking native hubbie only knows "Arkansasan". :) This means that many times I've published stuff that I know is wrong, but to keep peace in the house I let it go.
