[opensuse] Re: [opensuse-kde] kmail threading problem

Can't find the way to make it thread by date or order of arrival. Yes I've done the Settings > Appearance > Message List thing at least 15 times. There is no option under threading for Order of arrival.
Is it me? Am I missing something? Anybody else see this? Is there a config file? Is it a bug? Anybody can help?
The column headers in the folder view control sorting. Click on them to select different orders. The Date column has several: Order of arrival ascending or descending, origination date ascending or descending.
Whoops!! Just noticed something. Kmail seems to be threading the messages alphabetically from the subject line ! Weird!
That's an option, too, with both ascending and descending options. It also has a variation with "status," but I don't know what that means. I set mine all to thread by date of arrival with newest at the bottom (arrow pointing downward).
Hi Randall, Thanks for replying. I must be a real simpleton. Still can't find what you are talking about. I've just got some checkboxes and radio buttons. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Randall,
Thanks for replying.

Click the mouse on the column headers in the mailbox display. Subject, Date, Sender, even Size can be the sort criterion. Randall Schulz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Randall, No, not as you said, but I finally got it to sort by date by clicking umpteen times in that row between Order of Arrival & Date. Had to do that on every folder I have. (and there are many) There were no other options of the type you describe on the drop-down list hope this is not another step backward to "help" us with the complexities of configuration. I am running Kmail 1.9.6 enterprise. Maybe something has changed? At least it is now in a somewhat usable form without new messages scattered throughout the list of old messages. There are only four different orders for the Date column.
Had to do that on every folder I have.
Yes, it's a per-folder setting. Naturally, I set mine as I create new folders.

I don't know what "drop-down" list you're talking about and I didn't mention anything but clicking the column headers to control the sort order of a folder.

I'm running 1.9.5. It's possible, though I don't think likely.
At least it is now in a somewhat usable form without new messages scattered throughout the list of old messages.
What exactly do you want that you don't have now?
Thanks again, Bob S

Yes, I guess. Date up and down, and Order of Arrival up and down. I had to do keep repeating back and forth and up and down until Kmail finally sorted it correctly.
Had to do that on every folder I have.

If you right click on that row you get a drop-down list.

Yes, you are probably correct.
At least it is now in a somewhat usable form without new messages scattered throughout the list of old messages.

Welllll... I thought there were other sorting actions, by subject, etc like you mentioned in your first reply. And why when Kmail installed did it choose to alphabetize the subject?? and that does not appear as an option. Maybe because I copied all of my mail over from 10.2? Who knows......??? Anyway I am satisfied that I got it all organized now in a rational fashion. install default action ??

solved the same way that you obtained a 'sort/display by date/receipt'.
Anyway I am satisfied that I got it all organized now in a rational fashion.
then we are getting somewhere :^) - -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn4472 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHENNyClSjbQz1U5oRApQTAKClgFRs984dODMyS2KLojqlUASUFgCdEWYn P9XDeWp+mpjhOEJc7PJt5As= =Oe92 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
