[opensuse] OpenSUSE Scanning
Hello Listmembers, Wonder what is the best scanning software available for OpenSUSE. I tested "Simple Scan" but the generated scan both PDF or JPG (also by reducing the default resolution), is very big in size, I would like a compressed/reduced size preferably on PDF format, in order to send the final document through email. My printer is a HP OfficeJet J4660 All-In-One. Hi Marco, My printer is an 'HP Photosmart C6280 All-In-One' and I get great results using XSane. There is also Skanlite that is installed (by default?) with KDE4... it works very well. I've used it a lot with my Canon scanner. C -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have to say that VueScan is not free (in no sense, you have to pay and can't share it), but it's cheap, extremely well done (first look do no engage, but at u_se time excellent) and the author is extremely responsive (he fixed a bug for me that was worth the software price). It works as well for windows than Linux (and with the same key) and most of the photographs I know use it :-) http://www.hamrick.com/ jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I use "The Gimp" to scan and compress the images (it calls xsane). You can modify several settings and see how adjusting quality affects size (jpg). Although the best compressor for scanned text and photos is "DjVu", and can only be generated from the command line. It can also generate multipage documents. PDF is not the best format for this, except that everybody has it. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
