[SLE] Missing PPP Dialer in Suse 10.1
I have used Suse Linux since version 9.0 and I recently upgraded to version 10.1. The installation went without a hitch. The modem was tested during installation and worked. I configured the modem and my e-mail account. However, now I can not locate any means to access the dialer. Previous versions of Suse had an icon in the taskbar that looked a bit like an electrical plug. Clicking on this brought up the dialer and connected me to the internet. I can't find anything that looks like that or any other means of access. If anyone can help me locate or set up the dialer it would be greatly appreciated. Are you thinking of kinternet ? It has a electrical plug as icon, and is used for some dial services. //Sylvester jejones@netscape.com wrote:

Hello, In SuSE 9.3 version and earlier, system files such as : /proc/net/dev were refreshed more than two times per second. From SuSE 10.0, the refresh rate is of about 2 seconds ! Is it possible to change this parameter and how ? Thanks in advance. The thing disappears occasionally and you have to bring it back by going into Start/Internet and find the kppp or kinternet-whatever and by clicking on it the icon reappears in the taskbar. I cannot give you the exact location of where to look in Start because I don't have a modem now (am on ADSL) but look around and you will find it. During an usual update with "online update" or "system update", yast programs and libraries where destoyed - the update deleted packages - I fear I cannot describe exactly how it happend, I remember it did not inform me very much about what the system wanted to do. But: I cannot restore the lost packages. When I boot the system, I have no yast, also not in character mode. Rug also does not work - it aborts when I start the program. I tried to update the installation from the CD. At first everything works fine, but there is a conflict, that I cannot resolve: the window with the message about the conflicting packages opens: it says something about libzypp-patch...zmdrestart.sh-2.13..... and so. It suggestes that it should be deleted, I mark the option, I retry solving conflicts - and the same message appears - no way out. I then made rpm -qa|grep libzyp - there is no such package. I apologize about the vague description. But is ther a possibilite to repair the system (the automatic repair from the CD does not work, because at the end it tries to start yast from the installed system - and it aborts of course)? The system is running, only yast and the update part does not work. I think I could try to install the lost packages (but I do not know, what is missing) with rpm from somewhere. But from where? Otherwise I would have to install the system newly. The system is Suse 10.1. I can't solve your dilemma but can suggest that you try deleting the libzypp etc rpms manually (as root, on a commandline). Do this with- rpm -e <full name of the rpm> Once it/they are deleted then do 'SuSEconfig' (without the quotes) to rebuild the rpm database. Cheers.
I then made rpm -qa|grep libzyp - there is no such package.

Hello, From SuSE 7.1 and up to SuSE 10.0 I used to compile kdebase in order to include a patch of mine which purpose is to detect if Vmware is running when I try to stop KDE and this in order to cleanly stop the OS running in VMware. In order to do that, I download the src.rpm, extract from it the kdebase-3.x.x.tar.gz install it and run : ./configure cd ksmserver (after application of my patch) make make install Then I restart KDE and everything works. BUT with SuSE 10.1 and KDE 3.5., even after compilation of a non patched ksmserver, the KDE session doesn't start. Can a KDE gourou try to help me in order to solve this problem. I even tried to apply the patches related to ksmserver included in the src pachage but I got compilation errors ... So I'm lost, where can I find the sources which accept to be compiled and to start kde, do I've do patch them ? .... Thanks in advance. Michel

Hi, It works with the SVN ksmserver source. Michel.
