Thank you for you suggestion, I tried what you suggested but recieved: "SIOCADDRT: File exists" then when i did a route -n i noticed that the flag was now 'ug' instead of 'u' but that didnt work. i also noticed that route had my gateway listed as 24.27.146.1 but the ip on that card is really 24.27.146.21, so i also did: "route add default gw 24.27.146.21 eth0" but that didnt work, so i left that ip in and did a: "route del default gw 24.27.146.1 eth0" which removed the wrong(?) ip address of 24.27.146.1 and put in the correct ip address of 24.27.146.21 so, now the last line of the "route -n" table is: destination gateway genmask flags metric ref use_iface 0.0.0.0 24.27.146.21 0.0.0.0 ug 0 0 0 eth0 The rest of the table is the same. What does your ifconfig show? Your external interface (etho in this case I guess) should have 1) It's own IP address (the 'near' end) and the ifconfig should also show that it is connected to another IP address (the 'far' end). You should try tp ping the far end by its ip address. This eliminates any name server problems, and shows that you are connected to the outside world. If that works, then you should try to ping some outside address by its IP address. Example: yahoo.com at 216.115.108.243 If that works, then you are connected to the outside world. Then try to ping by name... yahoo.com And when that works, you are home free... but as you know, you must have some setup problems to conquer first.
