Hello: I'm an amateur. While trying to get Real Player 8 to run as a Netscape (using the Netscape version that came with SuSE 6.4) plugin I managed to cause a major problem on my system (AMD Athlon 700 mhz, 2 ide hard drives, ram=384 MB, Soundblaster Live sound card). I actually had Real Player running at one point although Netscape froze up. I had to switch to another console to kill Netscape. Since then I can get Real Player to work with sound files when I start from the command line, but Netscape doesn't work at all. When I click on the NS icon on the desk top nothing happens. If I go into a Konsole and try to run netscape from the command line I'm informed there a "buss error" occured. I've tried rebooting w/power off, and have removed/installed Netscape 3 times with Yast but to no avail. I do get a lock file in .netscape when I try to run the program. Once I deleted that, tried running it again and had the whole machine lock up. I finally had to turn the power off to get any response at all. Does anybody have any idea what I might try next? (Without a browser I can't even go to the archives to research the problem.) George -- George H. For a browser you can use kdm that comes with kde. You definatley need to browse the archives as there have been MANY with this problem. You might try typing /opt/netscape/netscape to start netscape as I think the main problem was with the wrapper script that stars it. Notice I said main problem. USE kdm for a browser to search the archives. kdm is your kde filemgr/browser. Just put in a URL. -- Mark Hounschell markh@compro.net
