Hi, Looking for suggestion of 19'' flat CRT monitors. If you've got one of these babies or you work on one please let me know what you think and would suggest for a new purchase. I'm presently leaning toward the LG Flatron 915ft Plus, but I'm also partial to NEC 950FP. So if you got two cents let me hear what you got to say. b stephen harding Black & White Rhino Press ---------------------------------------- "A man is involved in life, leaves his impress on it, and outside of that there is nothing." Do I understand correctly that you are not looking for a "flat screen" as in LCD but rather what is sometimes termed "flat-square", what is basically a normal monitor with a flat face glass instead of the usual convex surface? If that's correct, I recommend ViewSonics flat-square CRT. I have not actually tried it on Linux, but have used several of them, all the needed info is in the little booklet that comes with them, and besides, they are listed in SAX so I think they're supported. You could always check with the SuSE Hardware DB or XFree's supported hardware list first. At 12:09 AM 1/11/2001 -0500, you wrote:

on Wed, 10 Jan 2001 23:04:20 -0500 I have the Samsung SyncMaster 955SL. Terrific monitor for about 368. I had the guy who made the computer buy as a part of his deal.

Do these lists of supported monitors in the install really DO anything besides provide a list of acceptable scan frequencies and resolutions? I should think with this information at hand, any monitor would do. In the old days that's exactly what you did, grab the book and enter the numbers. Does XFree now actually do some additional communication with the monitor, aside from generating the display, and DPMS stuff? Stew Benedict

AFAIK, the monitor selection is just to give the monitor a meaninful name, and to provide the frequencies/resolution. It does nothing else. Not everyone has a booklet with their computer/monitor, and it means you don't necessarily have to dig it out when setting up X. As to which monitor to get, I would either go for an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 450, or the NEC 950FP you mentioned. I have a 21" innomax.
I've got a SONY, I think it's model GDM400, but I'm not in front of it at the moment. I love it! At 11:04 PM 01/10/2001 -0500, you wrote:
