Well Group: Here we go again. It seems that jpilot is not correctly working in 8.2 (it blows up). Furthermore, Yast2 Updates fails while downloading a jpilot backup file.rpm. So, I decided to just down load the latest version along with all of the other required files (pilot-link). Guess what? polit-link along with just about everything but vim6.2 and ytree (to fix the "?" problem in 8.2) are failing on 8.2 to compile. gcc 3.3 is complaining about a single quote missing. However a search is showing none (in otherwords they are paired up). Can we get a Yast2 Update patch or replacement for 3.3? I have heard that 3.2.3 (maybe 3.2.2 - memory) works. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org Info: http://www.knoppix.net
I reported the missing jpilot backup about a week ago to bug tracking at SuSE. Even the link on their web site for downloading patches is broken. On Monday 30 June 2003 09:31 am, Donn Washburn wrote:

Thanks for the information I did download about 4 programs for this jpilot and finally got them to compile. I checked the size of my binaries verus SuSE8.2 and my file are much larger plus they work. The compiler problem seem to have come from requesting TK/TCL support which is part of SuSE 8.2 and TK/TCL 8.4 -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org Info: http://www.knoppix.net

That has nothing to say. Run strip on the binaries and the sizes should be close to 8.2 files. Binaries are normally stripped of debugging information when building RPMs. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de SuSE Linux AG private: philipp.thomas@t-link.de
I was speaking of the libraries. I didn't check the binaries. However, almost every option seems to work. Unfortunantly all I have to test it with is a Palm Zire m150. SuSE 8.2's binary blewup and beside would not show any of the backed up data on the jpilot screens. Philipp Thomas wrote:

One can always download the src.rpm and rebuild it, in the meantime. ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/8.2/rpm/src/jpilot-Backup-0.50-76.src.rpm -- Scott Jones (scott at exti dot net)

What version of pilot-link did you try? I just downloaded pilot-link-0.11.7 and it compiled quite smoothly on my 8.2 workstation at home. Have you updated your GCC package to gcc-3.3-43 as I suggested last week when this issue came up? You can find this and all the other required packages on SuSE's ftp site. I've had very little fail to compile with this GCC version. It's not the pre-3.3 version but pkgs of the 3.3 release. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail and any attachment is intended for anyone with an email address and does not contain information that is confidential and privileged or that is of any intrinsic value to anyone.
