The help in many gnome programs do not work. Every time I try, I get a Galeon crash (segmentation fault). Is this known? -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Update: If I start galeon from a console (not from the "help" menu in a program, it complains, but does start: cer@nimrodel:~> galeon LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.3.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so [/usr/lib/SunJava2-1.3.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so: undefined symbol: __vt_17nsGetServiceByCID] font /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale FreeType failed to open, error=2 Both files do exist; the java error I have solved disabling java and javascript on "Preferences/advanced/filtering". Once started, if I click on the "help" of a gnome app, I get another error on the console, and galeon crashes: ************************************************** nsNativeComponentLoader: GetFactory(/opt/gnome/lib/galeon/components/libgaleon-xpcom.so) Load FAILED with error: /opt/gnome/lib/galeon/components/libgaleon-xpcom.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory ************************************************** ************************************************** nsNativeComponentLoader: GetFactory(/opt/gnome/lib/galeon/components/libgaleon-xpcom.so) Load FAILED with error: /opt/gnome/lib/galeon/components/libgaleon-xpcom.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory ************************************************** I have tried to find that component "libgaleon-xpcom.so", but it is not installed, nor can be found on the dvd (using pin). Where is it? -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

What version of Galeon are you using? And where did you install it from, and how? -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1). I have the one installed by a fresh install of Suse 8.1 from the DVD, or YOU in any case. It is "Gnome galeon 1.2.5". The rpm is "galeon-1.2.5-154". It has been crashing since the first day I installed SuSe 8.1, as far as I remember... it is not the only bug in gnome, there are several. For example, gnome-terminal always crashed if started from a session save, because it did not accept _any_ parameter on the command line except --help. This one has been patched by Suse. But still I can not type accented letters on it, like "á", even if I can type special letters as "ñ". I suppse it doesn't accept compossed letters (two keys). Balsa - the default gnome mailer - is useless because it can not send any mail at all, it sits there sending for ages till killed. My guess is it is not compatible with postfix. Susehelp application manuals pages for gnome are empty, but so is the DE page as well. There are also some help buttons in gnome that call up the wrong path, I have to discover where it is and enter it manually - if the help doesn't crash before I can see the line. I can accept that Suse is biased towards kde: kde is very good and I also use it. But I would like gnome tested and working at least! :-/ Mmm... sorry if I got heated O:-) -- Cheers, Carlos.

It won't run here. I installed it twice and have Mozilla 1.2 installed also. It starts opening up multiple times and won't quit. I ended up deleting Galeon and going with Phoenix. Roy

Roy James might be able to handle this better than i can, but i think you need to use his mozilla and his galeon. I think the mozilla version he has is 1.2.1, which is required by galeon 1.3.1. There are also some instructions on his mozilla page about galeon not working the first time becuase of old files.
Have you told james about it, or posted it to the list? -- Franklin Maurer nebbish@sprynet.com SuSE 8.1

Thanks Franklin :) If you're going to use my Galeon build, you will also need my Mozilla build, and please (please please) read the information on the site, it's there for your benefit. As for Carlos' point about SuSE's support for GNOME, it always used to be ok, 8.1 I think was a bit of a blip, and the support will hopefully be stronger in 8.2. SuSE seems to have been making some loving mooing noises towards GNOME in the press recently... -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1). I'm glad to hear that. It was fine in my old suse 7.3, I wondered what happened: I was afraid they had decided to drop it. But, if it was a blip, they should correct it as patches. I might try your version of galeon... but hearing that I would need also to update mozilla, it's going to be a lot of bytes, and I use a modem. I'll have to think it over... How about balsa, does your version work? Suse version can not send mail. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

I don't so a version of balsa, you'll have to look elsewhere for that I'm afraid... -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1).
